Citizen's Arrest!!! Citizen's Arrest!!!

I must confess I listen to a podcast entitled Two Gomers Run a Marathon (TGRAM) and I get a kick out of their humor and honesty. Well about two weeks ago Gomer #2 (Stephen) was hit by a car while running on a trip in Denver. He was about a block from where he was staying and made the mistake of thinking the intersection he was approaching was a 4-way stop. Guess what? It weren't!

The bad news is he got hit by a car; the good news is that it was a Smart Car. He did sustain some broken ribs and bruises, but it could have been much worse. I am thankful that he will be OK. A somewhat humorous part of this story was that while he was in the Emergency Room a Policeman came and gave him a ticket for "Jay-Walking!" Wouldn't that technically be "Jay-Running?" Oh well it made me think of Barney and I realize that the Policeman had to do his job.

So you ask where am I going with this blog and what is with it's title? In episode #106 (December 16, 1963-Citizen's Arrest) Barney gave Gomer a ticket for making a U-Turn and Gomer then retaliated when Barney committed the same offense. The resulting feud between the two when Andy made Barney write himself a ticket is one of legend and it is in my Top 5 all time favorite episodes.

So why am I thinking about this tonight? I chose to run in an area that was pretty dark. I ran from our church on Whippoorwill past the Elementary School and back (3 miles). I dressed in a bright white shirt but not long into the run I began to question my judgement as cars approached. Some veered well away from me while others seemed to be aiming at me.

When I made it to the school something was going on and two Police cars had a car pulled over and surrounded. As I ran on a short distance was another Police car about 100 yards after this car was the railroad track that marked my half way point. So as I headed back I waved to the officer as I went by. I do not think he was looking because 10 seconds after that a speeding car almost hit me and I had to run off on the shoulder. I looked back at the Police car to see if they would pursue the offender and they did not. If I would have had the energy and speed I would have run after them yelling "CITIZEN'S ARREST! CITIZEN'S ARREST!"

So I made it back to the church in one piece and promised myself I would not run on that particular road again! At least not at night.....THIS NIGHT anyway!
